INNISFAIL – RCMP have made a major weapons bust following the arrest of a trio of suspects near Penhold.
At about 5 a.m. on Nov. 30, Innisfail RCMP say they observed a subject known to police violate his court-imposed conditions by leaving his residence in Penhold and then driving off in a vehicle.
With the assistance of Blackfalds RCMP, a traffic stop was conducted on Highway 2A, said RCMP Cpl. Tammy Keibel in a media release issued today (Dec. 6). She said three occupants in the vehicle were located in possession of two firearms.
Keibel the vehicle and firearms were seized and the occupants, two males and one female, were arrested.
She said search warrants were obtained and executed by Innisfail RCMP at the residence in Penhold, as well as on the seized vehicle with the assistance from the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, Forensic Identification Section and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team along with units from Blackfalds and Innisfail.
Keibel said a total of 21 prohibited and non-restricted firearms were seized, along with silver coins, collectable currency and suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
“Innisfail RCMP General Investigative Section believe the firearms seized are related to a recent break and enter in Innisfail and are continuing to investigate,” said Keibel.
Jordan Glasgow, 21, of Penhold, Casey Laprise, 33, of no fixed address, and Amber Parfitt, 37, of Olds, have been jointly charged with numerous offences:
• two counts of possessing firearm in a vehicle;
• possession of a firearm obtained by crime;
• two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace;
• two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000;
• possession of stolen property under $5,000; and
• possession of break-in instruments.
Glasgow and Parfitt have been jointly charged with three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe transportation of firearm in motor vehicle and possessing loaded firearm.
Glasgow has also been charged with:
• possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace;
• failing to comply with release order;
• two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm;
• two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• possession of a firearm obtained by crime; and
• two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.
Parfitt has also been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Laprise has also been charged with unsafe transportation of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a loaded firearm and two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
After a judicial hearing, all three accused were remanded to custody. Laprise and Parfitt will be appearing in Red Deer provincial court on Dec. 9, while Glasgow will appear on Dec. 12.
