Land rezoned
A parcel of land on Woodland Road has been rezoned after a public hearing held at Innisfail town council on Feb. 13.
The parcel was originally designated reserved for future development but was moved to residential single family land.
No one spoke for or against the bylaw amending the Land Use Bylaw at the public hearing. Craig Teal, director of planning and development, said no comments or concerns were received prior to the meeting as well.
Teal said switching the designations "will not jeopardize the future ability to develop the rest of parcel A."
Once the public hearing was closed council passed both second and third readings of the bylaw unanimously.
Water rates going up
Council passed a bylaw that will raise water and sewer utility rates effective April 1.
The rate increase will see both water and sewer rise to $1.75 per cubic metre from $1.62 per cubic metre.
Coun. Brian Spiller confirmed with administration that the increase was the one council approved in the 2012 budet.
The background information given to council said the increase was to help move the sewer rate to a point where the system can break even, even after Innisfail connects to the new regional wastewater line.
Transmission line route objections
AltaLink will be hearing from the Town of Innisfail regarding its preferred route for new transmission lines.
"I think we'd like to try and pursue a different route," said Mayor Jim Romane.
AltaLink's preferred route runs near Highway 54. Helen Dietz, chief administration officer, said this was a concern to council because of existing and planned development in the area.
Council voted unanimously to send correspondence regarding its preference for a different route to be used.
