An Innisfail man is in custody on allegations he sexually assaulted a young boy, while committing child luring through social media.

On Aug. 26, Innisfail RCMP announced the arrest of a 24-year-old local man following an eight-day investigation into reports a 13-year-old boy may have been sexually abused.

“It was an investigation that was brought to our attention by a parent who discovered information on social media,” said Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler, adding the accused is “known” to local Mounties.

Eiler said the police investigation was solely conducted by the Innisfail RCMP. Detachment detectives, first notified on Aug. 18, “quickly” nabbed a suspect, she added.

The alleged assailant and victim were not related, said Eiler. However, she declined to disclose the 13-year-old boy's place of residence.

Eiler added there was no connection between the accused assailant and the victim outside of social media.

Nathan Kyle Pixley, 24, of Innisfail, has been charged with single counts of sexual assault, distributing sexually explicit material to a child, luring a person under 16 years of age through telecommunication, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Pixley was remanded in custody after making his first court appearance last Friday, Aug. 26 in Red Deer provincial court. He is scheduled to return to Red Deer court on Sept. 14.

If anyone has knowledge of this or similar incidents, he or she is asked to call the Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342. If callers want to remain anonymous, they can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-847, or by Internet at www.tipsubmit.com
