INNISFAIL – Nothing shows the Christmas spirit more than giving to the less fortunate during the holidays.
The 24th annual Innisfail Charity Check Stop will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Dec. 7.
The Town of Penhold is also holding a Charity Check Stop, organized by Jessie Duncan Elementary School's parent council, on Nov. 23.
“We’re definitely excited about the fact that the community comes together over this check stop,” said Innisfail RCMP Const. Craig Nelson. “We have so many different organizations that work together to try and help our less fortunate.”
This year’s Charity Check Stop will once again be located on Main Street (50th Street) between 48th and 49th avenues. Members of the Innisfail RCMP will be joined by members of the Innisfail Fire Department, Innisfail EMS, as well as volunteers with several other local organizations.
Volunteers will be collecting donations of new clothing, food, new toys and cash, from traffic travelling both east and west along Main Street.
Items and cash donated will be given to the Innisfail and District Food Bank, the Innisfail Christmas Bureau, the Women’s Outreach Society (Red Deer) and the Innisfail Youth Positive Assets Coalition.
Nelson said this year has been a tough year for many families across the province, and events like the annual Charity Check Stop can have a positive impact.
“With the difficult times that some of our Albertans are experiencing right now, it’s especially important to work together during this holiday season to support them,” said Nelson.
