Innisfail's newest public art depicts a sacred symbol

Henday Association for Lifelong Learning, Central Alberta Co-op’s Communities in Full Colour program and artist Ryan Willert collaborate for latest piece

INNISFAIL - In partnership with the Henday Association for Lifelong Learning and Central Alberta Co-op’s Communities in Full Colour program, local  artist Ryan Willert has completed a new mural on the side of Century Theatre in Innisfail.

Titled "The Buffalo," it depicts a sacred symbol embodying various aspects of life, spirituality, and culture.

"Buffalo provided essential resources such as food, clothing, and tools, making them a symbol of sustenance and survival in harsh environments. The buffalo skull, in particular, represents enduring strength, resilience, and the interconnectedness of all living beings. It serves as a reminder of the importance of living in harmony with nature and respecting the balance of the natural world. Overall, the buffalo and its skull hold deep cultural, spiritual, and symbolic significance, representing strength, resilience, spirituality, connection to all living beings, nature, and abundance," a Henday spokesperson explained.
