About 200 stakeholders are being invited to provide input into the future of Innisfail’s downtown.
Parkland Community Planning Services (PCPS) issued invitations last week as part of the town’s process for an Area Redevelopment Plan for the downtown, along with a street redesign for 50th Street and a Strategic Action Plan.
The emailed invitation to stakeholders said the plan would contain policies that work toward “achieving a desired future based on the needs and desires of the community.”
PCPS has been contracted by the town to conduct interviews with stakeholders, which will be completed by the end of next month. Each stakeholder will be asked for ideas and suggestions on the issues, challenges and opportunities in the downtown area.
Beginning in 2012 the town will begin its downtown revitalization plan, a two-year project with a cost of between $6 and $6 million, with the reconstruction of 50th Street from McDonalds to Fas Gas.
Late last month about 20 business owners met to discuss how they could contribute to the plan. The owners agreed to further meetings and are looking at creating a Business Revitalization Zone, or a formal association. The most favoured proposed name for the association is Innisfail Development Enhancement Association (IDEA).
