Innisfail RCMP have nabbed a suspected car thief in a rural field following a report that a vehicle was stuck after ramming through two barbed wire fences.

Police were called at about 1:40 p.m. on Oct. 30 that a black 2003 Pontiac Sunfire was stuck in a field at a rural residence about 11 kilometres west of Innisfail along Highway 54.

Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said police responded and discovered that the vehicle had smashed its way through two barbed wire fences before becoming stuck in the field.

Morrish said when officers arrived at the scene they discovered the male sleeping in the driver's seat of the vehicle, which was still running. The man appeared to be intoxicated said Morrish.

He said RCMP discovered that the vehicle was stolen from Three Hills and was originally yellow before being spray-painted black.

Jason Robert Boyer, 39, of Rocky Mountain House, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property worth more than $5,000.

He was remanded into custody and made his first court appearance last week.

Police probe Penhold break-in

Police are still searching for the culprits who broke into a construction work trailer in Penhold and stole tools.

Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said police received a report shortly before 9 a.m. on Nov. 7 that a trailer on Robinson Avenue was broken into sometime during the previous evening.

Morrish said RCMP determined entry was gained by prying open the door. He said an air compressor, jigsaw and nail gun were stolen. The estimated value of the stolen tools is about $1,000 said Morrish.

He noted there has been a recent rash of tools being stolen in Penhold.

If any citizen has any information on the Robinson Avenue break-in he or she is asked to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police investigate stolen vehicles

RCMP are reporting there is an ongoing problem with stolen vehicles in rural areas outside of town.

Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said police have investigated several reports of stolen vehicles, as well as recovered ones, in rural areas north and east of Innisfail over the past week.

Morrish said police received reports of two stolen trucks, two all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), one flatbed trailer, and on Nov. 6 a stolen truck out of Penhold.

He said one of the stolen ATVs and one pickup truck were recovered, along with a stolen truck out of Red Deer.

If any citizen has any information about the stolen vehicles or sees anything suspicious he or she is asked to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
