INNISFAIL - The Kinette Club of Innisfail has reached an enviable milestone.

The service club has been giving back to the community for 40 years.

"Our motto is serving the community's greatest needs," said Tammy Noete, president. "The club is a group of ladies getting together, that like to volunteer in a club (setting) and give back to the community."

The club will be celebrating its four decades of dedicated service by holding its 40th anniversary Dinner of Diamonds at the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion on Oct. 20.

"It's our major fundraiser for the year, to give back to the community," she said. "The money (raised) from the Dinner of Diamonds goes to community events and programs we support."

Those include local schools, including breakfast programs and scholarships, different community events, as well as cystic fibrosis, which is Kin Canada's major fundraiser. In recent years, the Kinettes have also given to the new Bowden hall, local playgrounds and Ronald McDonald House.

Noete said there is a different theme for the Dinner of Diamonds every year.

"This year it's our Red and White Gala and it's celebrating our Kinettes' 40th Dinner of Diamonds," she said, adding the significance of such a milestone.

"We're very proud of it. It's a big accomplishment for our club."

"We always have nice entertainment for the evening and a dinner. There's 20 to 25 diamond rings that we give away that evening, and we also give out door prizes," said Noete. "It's a ladies-only event so it's a bunch of ladies out there having fun."

Noete added they will celebrate the important milestone with a very special guest who will share a few words at the gala.

"We haven't told anybody, except for club members," explained Noete. "All the members are ecstatic about the special guest and what they're going to share that evening."

Noete has been a member of the club for 15 years and said it's a great way to meet new friends, help the community and give back.

Marking 40 years in Innisfail is something to celebrate and cherish, she said.

"It's a very special night. We're very proud that we can be a volunteer club that's been around for that length of time. (We're) in town, still going and still giving back to the community," said Noete.

Club members meet every third Tuesday of the month. Women of all ages are welcome to join, from teenagers to seniors.
