INNISFAIL - Months of negotiations between Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS) and its teachers, represented by the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA), has resulted in each side ratifying a mediator’s recommendations for terms of settlement, say officials.

Red Deer Catholic Local No. 80 teachers ratified the recommendations on March 27, with RDCRS board of trustees following suit on March 28.

ATA spokesperson Mark Milne told the Albertan the details of the mediators’s recommendations for terms of settlement will be released once they have been presented to the whole bargaining unit.

RDCRS did not return repeated calls seeking details of the mediator’s recommended terms of settlement.

“After carefully considering the mediator’s recommendations, received March 22, the board of trustees successfully ratified the recommendations,” said RDCRS vice-chair Dorraine Lonsdale.

“Moving forward, the division will continue working with our highly valued teachers to deliver programs and services for our students and communities.”

RDCRS division has 21 schools, including in Olds and Innisfail. About 700 teachers work in the Red Deer-headquartered division.
