Innisfail residents are invited to be part of a snapshot of life at their public library next week.
On Oct. 12, the Innisfail Public Library will compile a slew of data, including library statistics, customer comments, and photographs during “Snapshot Day 2011.” The event, which will be held at public libraries across Alberta through the month of October, is designed to illustrate the important role libraries play in communities across the province.
“It’s basically a snapshot to show the public what goes on in a library in a single day, from programming to computer usage,” said Valerie Fitzgerald, assistant librarian. “It basically just shows people what the library world has to offer.”
Animal therapist Ley-Anne Mountain and her French lop rabbit, Einstein, will get the day underway at 10 a.m. when they co-host the Story Time program.
At 11 a.m., a Lokken employment specialist will give a presentation on how to use the “Red Deer Works” kiosk set up in the library. The kiosk assists users in finding jobs, creating resumes or writing cover letters.
There will be a discussion on how to use a library membership to use audio books, e-books and to learn a new language at 1:30 p.m. and a presentation on the equipment the library has available for visually-impaired clients at 2:30 p.m.
Beginning at 4 p.m. teens and preteens are invited to come and check out “The Loft” and participate in a discussion on what they would like to see in the teen section at the new library.
Snapshot Day originated in the New Jersey State Library Association in 2009 as a way to take a “snapshot” of what happens in a library in a single day, as well as to show how visitors and communities are impacted by the libraries that serve them.
