It wasn't their usual time to buy a lottery ticket, but for Darcy Milligan and husband Michael Strelbisky, June 20 turned into their lucky day.
The Penhold couple ended up winning $100,000 on the Lotto Max ‘Extra' June 22 draw.
“It was definitely exciting,” Milligan said.
She found out when she went back to scan her tickets.
“I never look, I always like to just scan the ticket,” Milligan said. When she scanned the winning ticket, the $100,000 came up on the screen.
“I went kind of like, ‘Alright, that's a lot of zeros there,'” she said. She got the clerk to confirm the win. The retailer was pretty thrilled to get such a big pull.
“They'd never had a large winner there either,” Milligan said. She'd purchased the ticket in Gasoline Alley.
Milligan said Strelbisky took the news fairly calmly when she called him from the parking lot.
“He didn't seem all that excited,” she said.
Milligan was buying their ticket earlier than usual that week because recent prizes have been so large.
Milligan, who is 57, and Strelbisky, who is 59, will be sharing the prize with family members and saving some.
“We're not young, we'll put some towards retirement,” Milligan said, adding they may take a trip.
