INNISFAIL - Seniors recently gathered to celebrate the first-ever Christmas season at the Lundgren Centre .

“We’re having an old-fashioned Christmas dinner, ” said Elaine Sinnamon, organizer of the Dec. 13 event.

About 65 people came out for the dinner, noted Sinnamon, adding they wanted to provide some Christmas cheer during the holidays.

“This Christmas we just wanted to have some festivities and have a little bit of fun,” she said.

In addition to the Christmas dinner, guests enjoyed live entertainment, Christmas skits, fellowship and a Christmas carol singalong.

“We will definitely be singing Christmas carols,” she said. “We always have a good time here.”

One familiar face from the community, now at the Lundgren Centre, is Lucille Paquette-Lohmann, the new Lundgren Centre coordinator. Paquette-Lohmann is the former coordinator with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Innisfail.

She began her new job on Nov. 26.

“It’s an amazing place to hang out. The seniors are very loving,” said Paquette-Lohmann, noting a recent meeting with board members. “They’re super supportive and encouraging. I think it’s going to be a really nice relationship.”

She said working with seniors is not all that different than working with youth.

"I think there’s a lot of similarities,” she said. “It’s just about giving them their time and attention, listening to them and supporting them.”

Paquette-Lohmann also joined them for the first Christmas dinner at the Lundgren Centre.

“I bought my ticket and I’m going to sit and have supper with them and enjoy some visits.”
