Manslaughter charge laid into local killing of man

INNISFAIL – RCMP have laid a manslaughter charge against a local man in connection to an incident outside the Innisfail Hotel earlier this week.

At about 10:30 p.m. on April 24 Innisfail RCMP responded to an injured male on the sidewalk in the area of 51 Avenue and 49 Street.

Police said the male was transported to hospital by EMS where he succumbed to his injuries.  RCMP Major Crime North took carriage of the investigation.

An autopsy was conducted on April 26 at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Calgary.

On April 25 Malcolm Nathaniel Bourgeois, 40, of Innisfail, was charged with manslaughter of Winston “Drew” Grant, 27, of Innisfail.

Bourgeois has been remanded into custody and will be appearing in Red Deer provincial court on May 1.

RCMP said as this matter is now before the courts no further details will be provided.
