May long weekend was relatively quiet for the Innisfail RCMP this year.
“We were well-staffed and it was uneventful,” said Cpl. Jeff Hildebrandt.
On Saturday, police laid an impaired charge against one driver and a drug possession charge against a 20-year-old man. Cpl. A.J. Mand said 29 speeding tickets were issued over the long weekend and 14 other traffic violation tickets given out.
Mand said there were four collisions on the long weekend.
Hildebrandt said many people were caught with open alcohol on the shores of Glennifer Lake, which is not allowed.
“A lot of liquor was poured out,” Hildebrandt said. He reminded the public that while liquor is allowed within a campsite, people cannot have it on the shores or open and wandering around.
“We did have our quads out on Glennifer Lake,” Hildebrandt said. He noted the Innisfail RCMP are planning to have routine quad patrols planned at both Glennifer and Pine Lakes this summer.
Hildebrandt said there were “a lot of people who didn't participate” in the long weekend, in part due to Glennifer Lake still being too low for many boats to get onto the water.
