Penhold town council, in their final council meeting of 2013 held on Dec. 16, put back to administration a rate increase of 5 per cent for users of the multi-use facility. During the Jan. 13 meeting, the increase was approved.

As noted during the budget deliberations, rental rates for Memorial Hall had not been increased in more than four years, and council was told an increase would move the facility closer to a cost recovery situation.

Bookings are generally made more than a year in advance for regular users, with only a few made in the same year as usage, so the potential impact of this decision will be known only in 2015.

Town residents and service organizations presently receive a 15 per cent discount on the market rate. Rates range from $875 to $475, and town staff consider these about average when compared to others in the region.
