A Central Alberta man is facing drug trafficking charges – including those for allegedly peddling deadly fentanyl – following a recent traffic stop near Innisfail.

The investigation into the incident, which was assisted by Innisfail RCMP, resulted in the seizure of 11 ounces of fentanyl pills, two ounces of methamphetamine, six ounces of cocaine and an undisclosed quantity of marijuana. The total estimated street value of the seized drugs was about $20,000.

RCMP said the traffic stop made by an Alberta Sheriff and members of the Innisfail Integrated Traffic Services was made on April 3 along the QEII near Innisfail.

Police said a northbound minivan was stopped near Antler Hill after provincial sheriffs were alerted to the driver of the vehicle as having outstanding warrants.

After the vehicle was pulled over a lone male driver was arrested, and police at the scene entered into a drug investigation. With the assistance of the Innisfail RCMP, a search warrant was executed on the vehicle at the local detachment on April 4 and the drugs were discovered.

A 34-year-old Central Alberta man has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in connection to the seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana. Police said last week the name of the accused and his place of residence were not being released, as the charge against him had not yet been sworn.
