Innisfail RCMP Const. Neal Reynolds has proven himself to be one of the best law enforcement marksmen in the province.

The 35-year-old, 12-year veteran of the national police force teamed up with three other Mounties to bring home a trio of awards at the annual Alberta Inter Service Small Arms Competition. The event was held June 25 at the Hinton Fish and Game Association Gun Range.

Reynolds, who has been with the local detachment since October 2014, has been a basic firearms instructor for pistol, rifle and shotguns since 2014, and a carbine instructor in 2015 for new users in Alberta and at Regina's Depot Division.

“I was invited through the instructor program and was chosen to compete on the team,” said Reynolds of his participation in the competition, which was the first time Alberta RCMP have participated in the event. The competition included more than 100 law enforcement officers from provincial Fish and Wildlife, Alberta parks, municipal police forces, as well as members from the Alberta Sheriffs Branch.

Joining Reynolds on his team were Const. Joe Lewanczuk (St. Albert RCMP), Staff Sgt. Ron Parker (Edmonton Emergency Response Team), and Const. Matt Floyd (Sundre RCMP). They competed in the competition's four categories – handgun, carbine, sniper rifle, and combat shotgun matches. When it was all over, the team came in third overall, and second place in team carbine competition. Reynolds and Parker also came third in the sniper observer competition.

“As a detachment we are extremely proud of Constable Reynolds for his dedication in developing his shooting talent,” said Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler. “He is a great representative of the RCMP and our local detachment and his accomplishment at this competition is nothing short of impressive.”
