INNISFAIL – RCMP have busted a local couple for several drug offences and for possessing dangerous weapons, including a loaded sawed-off shotgun.
While one 41-year-old woman was arrested and charged, police still have a warrant out for the arrest of the alleged male accomplice, 41-year-old August Baker of Innisfail.
“We are still looking for the male. He hasn’t been located yet. Only the female was present,” said Innisfail RCMP Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk, adding the bust was “important” for the community.
“This is very important especially when we can get that modified sawed-off shotgun off the streets. That is always concerning.”
Matechuk said the woman was released after being arrested and charged.
He said local Mounties, with the support of the general investigation sections from Innisfail and Blackfalds, executed a search warrant at an Innisfail residence on the morning of Feb. 15. Matechuk said a woman was at the residence when the search warrant was executed.
He said quantities of cocaine, psilocybin (magic mushrooms), ecstasy (MDMA), fentanyl and other unidentified drugs were seized, along with a prohibited loaded sawed-off shotgun, sets of brass knuckles, ammunition and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
The couple are jointly facing eight charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a loaded prohibited weapon and unlawfully carrying or storing or transporting a prohibited weapon.
