INNISFAIL – Local Mounties have arrested an Innisfail man and an alleged Sylvan Lake accomplice in Bowden in connection to dozens of crimes in the region over the last month.
RCMP Const. Chantelle Kelly said in a news release issued today (April 28) that a probe began on April 19 when Innisfail RCMP was travelling on Highway 2A near Niobe when an officer observed a vehicle believed to be involved in a break and enter earlier that day in Bowden.
Kelly said RCMP determined the vehicle was also towing a stolen trailer. Police observed the vehicle and identified its occupants, said Kelly.
She said a traffic stop was later attempted but the vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene.
Kelly said additional observations of the vehicle were made throughout the afternoon with the assistance of RCMP support units. At one point, the occupants unhooked the stolen trailer and fled the area, she said.
On April 23, Innisfail RCMP members then executed a search warrant in connection to this investigation at a storage facility in Red Deer County.
Kelly said police located and seized stolen tools, construction materials, an ATV, a stolen trailer along with firefighting equipment that had been stolen from Red Deer County Emergency Services in Springbrook earlier this year.
The following day, Olds RCMP responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in Bowden. Kelly said police attended and observed the occupants as the same suspects in relation to the ongoing investigation.
She said police then arrested both suspects, which was done with no further property damage or injuries.
Kelly said the police operation was a joint effort in partnership with police officers from Olds, Innisfail and Didsbury RCMP.
Christopher Posner, 25, of Innisfail, was arrested in the vehicle and wanted on 13 outstanding arrest warrants that covered 20 outstanding charges. He has been further charged with 37 new criminal charges by the Innisfail RCMP and nine others by Olds RCMP that were connected to numerous events in the Innisfail and Olds area over the last month.
Posner has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on May 3.
Lyrissa Deck, 26 of Sylvan Lake, has been charged with possession of an illegal substance and possession of stolen property. She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on May 31.
