INNISFAIL – A local woman and her alleged Red Deer male accomplice, fleeing Mounties from Main Street in a stolen truck, were ultimately nabbed in a farmer's field when their vehicle ran out of gas.
At about 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 24, patrolling Innisfail RCMP noticed an older model black Ford truck with an expired plate on Main Street.
Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler said Mounties activated emergency lights but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. She said police did not pursue the suspects for public safety reasons.
Eiler said RCMP located the same vehicle a short time later while it was slowing down and swerving in the lane as it was making its getaway.
The truck exited the roadway and entered a farmer's field where it stopped because it had run out of gas, said Eiler, adding pursuing Mounties confirmed the vehicle was stolen.
She said a female passenger exited the truck and was arrested without incident. The male driver fled on foot and with the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Services the male was arrested a short time later.
Katelin Savard (Cunningham), 25, of Innisfail, has been charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, four counts of breaching a recognizance and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
Jeremy Terpstra, 33, of Red Deer has been charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, flight from police, obstruction, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and mischief not exceeding $5,000.
Terpstra and Savard were held in custody and were scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Aug. 25.
