INNISFAIL - Red Deer-Mountain View Member of Parliament Earl Dreeshen paid tribute to the late Jack Daines in the House of Commons today.
Speaking in Parliament on the afternoon of Thursday, March 3, Dreeshen called Daines “a true Canadian legend.”
“His contribution to the sport of rodeo in Canada was unsurpassed,” said Dreeshen. “Friends and customers at the Innisfail Auction (Market) were treated every week to his gravelly auctioneer’s voice, his no-nonsense version of down-home justice and his tremendous pride in our western heritage.
“It was often said Jack Daines was the Western Canada Don Cherry. He loved his family and his country and he promoted Canada every chance he had while welcoming fair-minded strangers whenever their paths would cross.”
Daines was “one of our most influential and passionate citizens,” he said.
A member of the Canadian Rodeo Hall of Fame, champion rodeo competitor and longtime Innisfail-area resident, Daines died Dec. 28, 2021 at age 85.
