Multiple collisions Wednesday on icy Highway 2 between Bowden, Innisfail

INNISFAIL - Travellers are advised to expect delays on Highway 2 in the Innisfail area Wednesday as poor road conditions have resulted in numerous collisions.

At 6:49 a.m. on April 17, Innisfail RCMP issued a press release advising the public of poor road conditions on Highway 2, starting north of Innisfail and spreading to the south of Bowden.

"The roads are covered in ice and snow, resulting in multiple collisions and vehicles driving off the road. No injuries have been reported so far," police said.

RCMP reminds the public to slow down and drive to the conditions of the road and advise that there will be delays on Highway 2 northbound and southbound in the area and any other area affected by this weather and these conditions.

If possible, avoid travel in the area or seek alternate routes.

Roads and highways around the province have since been noted as covered in ice and/or snow and are considered in poor condition. The most recent reports are highways 44 and 37 in the Westlock area 

"Furthermore, considering the conditions of multiple roadways today, Alberta RCMP recommended the public avoid travel if possible and, if Albertans do need to drive today, they are asked to plan extra time for their travels," noted police in another RCMP press release issued shortly after 7 a.m.
