The Daines Rodeo Ranch just outside Innisfail will be playing host to the first annual Texas Connection Music Festival Aug. 17-18.

“It's one of those ones we talked about for a few years,” said Adam Daines, president of TexAlta Productions. He said planning has been moving forward since January this year, with an eye to using the Daines Rodeo Ranch for more than just the annual rodeo and the picnic.

“That venue is just such a great venue,” Daines said.

The festival is being headlined by the Casey Donahew Band, with other acts including Micky and the Motorcars, Cody Canada and the Departed and more planned to perform as well.

“They can expect one heck of a show,” Daines said. The music ranges from “country with a rock edge” to full on honky-tonk and shades of country and rock in between, he said, calling the lineup “a really nice blend of country and rock.”

About 2,500 tickets are for sale, with weekend passes for the Friday and Saturday going for $85 and single day passes for $65.

“I'm pretty sure we're going to get this thing sold out,” Daines said.

Anise Munson from Upstream Marketing said the show will run from 4 p.m. on Aug. 17 till about midnight, and then Saturday afternoon until midnight again. There will be beer tents open later.

“People can actually camp on the grounds,” Munson said.

The show is working to support the Ronald McDonald House of Central Alberta by hosting events like a silent auction, a 50/50 draw and accepting donations for the charity throughout the weekend.

“We're excited,” Munson said of the plans for the festival.
