INNISFAIL -- The town is spending almost $325,000 for a new top-of-the-line street sweeper.
At its regular meeting on March 25, town council unanimously approved a recommendation from administration to replace its old 2005 Husky Sweeprite sweeper with a 2019 Elign Eagle Bear model. The new unit comes with a single engine system and is considered easier to maintain than other comparable models, and less likely to be down for maintenance.
"The old one is set for replacement this year as it's 14 years old and at the end of its lifespan," said Rod Fraser, the town's director of operational services, adding the Elign model comes with high recommendations. "It has a little bit of a different type of engine but what we have heard from other municipalities is that this one will perform quite well."
The town had budgeted $350,000 for the new sweeper, which will be tasked to keep local roads and parking lots cleans. The final price tag that was approved by council was $324,695.
Fraser said the new unit has been ordered with delivery expected later this year.
