The wait is almost over for the opening of the new Youth Programming Facility in Innisfail in the old Parkland Community Church.

ìWe will be hosting a community open house at the new to us Youth Programming Facility,î said Tammy Oliver-McCurdie, manager of Innisfail Family Community Support Services (FCSS). ìFrom 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on January 31, members of the community will be able to take a look around our shared facility, to talk to volunteers, and find out exactly what programs are available to youth in town.î

Community organizations using the shared facility will be present during the evening and available to answer questions and take applications for services or volunteers.

ìFCSS will be showcasing four of our programs,î said Sharron Matthewman, Innisfail Family Community Support Services coordinator. ìYouth can learn about YAP, the Youth Art Program, the youth community kitchen, youth babysitting courses, and the Home Alone course.î

Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Innisfail will also be present to discuss its mentoring programs with members of the community who may want to get involved as a corporate partner, volunteer, or on the board member level.

New to Innisfail, the Boys & Girls Club of Olds and Innisfail program will be unveiled. The Side Door program was rolled into the Boys & Girls Club effective early January.

ìThere are 46 youth registered for the Side Door program,î said Oliver-McCurdie. ìProgramming will run Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and two Fridays every month.î

The new Youth Programming Facility is located at 4136-49th Ave. Hours of operation will be dependent upon event scheduling and posted on the FCSS website and the front door.
