PENHOLD – It’s "A Night at the Ranch" for local charity.

The third annual event will take place at the Daines Ranch Rodeo Grounds on May 11 and 12.

“Over the first two years, we’ve raised just over $20,000,” said Kyle Daines, organizer. “It’s going to be a good event and it’s for a great cause.”

Money raised this year will go toward the Smiles Thru Lindsey Foundation in Red Deer, and the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sports Medicine Team.

The event will also include a charity poker tournament on May 11.

“We’re going to start with bronc riding at noon (May 11) and that night we’re going to have our charity poker tournament,” said Daines, noting the tournament fee is $100 and it begins at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the Innisfail Auction Market.

“With that $100 you also get two tickets into the bull riding event on Saturday,” he added. “We’re hoping people will come and camp out. The next day we’re going to have a pancake breakfast from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. The bull riding starts at 1 p.m.”

Daines said guests will include a few cowboys and hockey players, yet to be confirmed.

Kyle Daines and co-organizer Drew Iwanoczko recently made a presentation to Penhold council to ask for their support.

This year the town donated $2,500 towards A Night at the Ranch fundraiser and Penhold mayor Mike Yargeau was asked to open the bull riding event on Saturday.

“This year’s bull riding is a Canadian Pro Rodeo Association (CPRA) event that will count for the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) in Red Deer and the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas,” said Daines.

“We still have a little snow at the rodeo grounds and lots of water running, but another week of this nice weather and it’ll be good.”
