A man pleaded guilty to failing to stop for police, possession of stolen property and having care or control of a motor vehicle with his blood-alcohol level over the legal limit when he appeared in Red Deer provincial court on June 6.
Kenneth Peter Robert Nepoose was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and having care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired. Those charges were withdrawn.
Nepoose received a global sentence of nine months in jail and probation. He received one month's credit for pretrial custody, leaving him eight months to serve.
The Calgary man was charged after an April 8 incident where the Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit received reports of a driver heading north towards Innisfail on the QEII that had swerved, hit the ditch twice and was speeding excessively.
The press release issued by police at the time said sheriffs intercepted the vehicle a few minutes later and attempted to pull it over but the vehicle instead exited the highway down a dirt road while going over 160 km/h.
RCMP said the driver and vehicle evaded police until 10:50 a.m. The police were contacted as the truck had ended up stuck on the top of a hill in a field near Rge. Rd. 284. The driver contacted a nearby resident for assistance and called a tow truck, which prompted a call to the RCMP.
According to the press release, the man fled on foot when RCMP arrived at the scene. After a short chase he was arrested. The truck had been recently stolen from Calgary.
