There were no injuries when a train collided with a one-ton 2011 Ford truck shortly before 5:45 p.m. on Friday at the 17 Avenue and Highway 2A crossing in Bowden.
Larry Werner, Bowden's fire chief, said the truck was westbound at the time of the crash but couldn't stop in time to avoid the collision. The train hit the truck on the passenger side of the vehicle.
“He was pulling a trailer with a tractor on it and the truck broke away from the trailer and was put into the ditch while the trailer and tractor stayed up on the road,” he said, adding that the driver of the truck was extremely fortunate not to be injured in the collision.
Werner said the area was closed to traffic for about two hours while emergency responders dealt with the aftermath of the collision.
“The train was on the tracks and everything was shut down for about two hours while we cleaned up the mess and got the train out of the way and the vehicle out of the way,” he said.
Guardian Ambulance and Olds RCMP also responded to the incident.
