If you build a playground, they will come. If you supercharge it, even more will come.

That is the goal of three Innisfail mothers looking to enhance the existing shared playground at John Wilson, St. Marguerite Bourgeoys and Innisfail Middle schools with more equipment.

“The present playground is very sparse,” said Erin Flewelling. “And as there are three schools that share the same space, we think there should be a full set of equipment for kids to play on.”

Erin Flewelling, Jena Rice, and Jan Beecroft are working together to raise the required funds to change the playground in two phases. In addition to nofrills, they have approached the Innisfail Lions Club and Kinsmen.

“Phase 1 is an addition to the existing set of preschool equipment, and Phase 2 will add a full middle school element,” said Flewelling.

She said a final cost projection for the project has not been determined.

Town councillor Mark Kemball is aware of the project. During the last council meeting, he informed the town of the intention of the ad hoc committee to present its plan to them. No date has been set yet.

“I know these ladies, if they are involved, this project will happen. I really want to see what is required and what it will look like when it is finished,” Kemball said.

Kevin's nofrills was pleased to help with the project, and donated $1,550 to the playground enhancement project supported by the parent council at John Wilson.

“The funds donated came from profits generated by Christmas tree sales at the store this year,” said owner Kevin Meyer. “I'm sure we will be a bigger part of the project as time goes on.”
