Occupational Health and Safety is continuing its investigation into the death of a 43-year-old woman on a rural property near Bowden.

The woman died as a result of injuries she received when she was thrown from a horse mid-afternoon on August 23.

Olds RCMP and emergency medical services went out to the property at about 3:30 p.m. The property is owned by an agency that provides services to disabled adults.

According to Olds RCMP, when members, along with emergency medical personnel, arrived on scene, first aid was already being administered to the woman. She was transported to the Innisfail hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries at about 5:30 p.m.

Cpl. Jay Peden of the Olds RCMP said the medical examiner is now trying to determine the cause of death.

Barry Harrison, spokesperson for Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, said the investigation into the incident could take several months to complete.

“A worker, who also happens to live next door to the (Providing Residential Options and Services) residential home, went home to saddle up her horse and bring it back to the facility so the clients could watch and pet the animal. While on the PROS property, the worker was thrown off her horse. Two other employees administered first aid and CPR until the ambulance arrived. The worker was taken to hospital in Innisfail where she passed away,” he said.
