INNISFAIL - An Ontario man is facing several Criminal Code charges after attempting to flee Innisfail RCMP who were attempting to arrest him in a stolen vehicle.
At about 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 7 a lone Innisfail RCMP member observed a vehicle parked at the Esso gas station in Penhold.
Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler said police observed a vehicle parked at the pumps and the licence plate on the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen. When police attempted to arrest the lone male driver he refused to comply and attempted to drive away, said Eiler.
She said police were forced to break the driver side window and an altercation ensued, which resulted in store customers responding to assist the lone police officer.
Eiler said the male was successfully removed from the vehicle and arrested without further incident.
She said there were no injuries resulting from this incident.
Shaun Paul Martin, 35, of Ottawa, has been charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, obstructing police, resisting arrest, driving without subsisting driver's licence, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failing to stop for police.
Martin has been remanded to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Dec. 12.
