INNISFAIL - Local Mounties have nabbed a Calgary woman and man for allegedly being in possession of stolen catalytic converters.
Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Meghan Bell said in a news release that at about 12:10 a.m. on Feb. 21 local Mounties responded to a complaint of a black Mazda 6 appearing to be prowling around the town's Hooker’s Towing & Transport.
Bell said police officers located the vehicle in the McDonald’s drive-thru and conducted a traffic stop. She said a 27-year-old female and 34-year-old male, both from Calgary, were arrested.
Through additional investigation, the licence plate on the vehicle was confirmed as stolen and RCMP located methamphetamine and newly stolen catalytic converters inside the vehicle, said Bell.
She said the male and female are jointly charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime. The female is also charged with possession of methamphetamine and provincial offences, said Bell.
Bell said the identities of the male and female are not being released at this time as charges have not yet been sworn. Both were released on appearance notices and are scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on April 3.
"Property crime and crime reduction remains a priority for Innisfail RCMP and residents are asked to continue to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods," said Bell.
