Plans are in motion to sort out a list of concerns which have surfaced since the new library/learning centre opened unofficially last January.
Last month council approved preliminary plans for an additional 69 parking stalls after complaints arose from members of the public unhappy with overflow parking at the graveyard.
Trees were cleared by town crews and council asked for administration to bring back estimates for the paving and needed landscaping.
During council June 11, an additional $40,000 allocated from reserves was approved by council for the completion of the parking lot. The total cost for the asphalt and concrete work, as well as enhanced landscaping and furniture is $113,000.
“We've heard positive response from the community,” said Mayor Jim Romane of the new parking stalls that required clearing of trees in front of the building. “It opens the building up to better visibility.”
When asked when the lot would be completed, Shelley Gagnon, director of community services said while it would be nice to have it completed in time for the building's grand opening June 28, there was no guarantee.
“We can't do the landscaping until the lot is done and for that we are at the mercy of the contractor,” she said.
Improvements needed with the building itself were also addressed during council, such as the sound system, exterior light and electrical enhancements and furnishings.
Gagnon said cost estimates are being put together and will come before council to prioritize for future budgets once ready. She estimates it will be a month to a month and a half before estimates are collected.
