Peace Lutheran hosts Fun-Raiser

The third annual Peace Lutheran Fun-Raiser Fashion Show and Silent Auction will hit the Royal Canadian Legion stage on Oct. 3.

The third annual Peace Lutheran Fun-Raiser Fashion Show and Silent Auction will hit the Royal Canadian Legion stage on Oct. 3.

Sold out for the first two years, the third annual show will continue the winning tradition by raising funds for Innisfail and area charities and the Lutheran Church.

“In previous years, we have donated money to the Innisfail and District Food Bank and other local groups but we decide every year where funds go,” said Marilyn Maldaner, a committee group member. “The same will happen this year.”

The show and auction will start at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., with refreshments provided by Jolene Bjarnason of Complete Catering, and homemade goodies from the kitchens of Peace Lutheran members.

“We were thinking of not putting on the show this year, but local stores and community members would not let us quit,” said Maldaner. “Every year we only showcase clothing from Innisfail vendors, and this year there are 10 who are involved.”

She added the stores put in a lot of work in selecting clothing for the models to wear down the catwalk and on the stage.

“This is a great opportunity for people to find out where you can buy clothing in town,” added Maldaner. “Not everyone knows what is available in town, and this is one way to let people know.”

The committee and community members who help organize and run the show find the experience “rewarding,” according to Maldaner.

“It is a great way to visit, and everyone gets a lot out of the fashion show. Last year we had 250 people sell out the night, and it is close again already,” said Maldaner.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from Maldaner. She can be contacted at 403-227-3877.
