Hundreds of local and area residents and families came out for the annual fall festival in Penhold.

The three-day event ran Sept. 9 to 11 at the Penhold Regional Multiplex and kicked off on Friday with midway rides and games, a minor soccer barbecue and a hockey tournament.

Saturday saw plenty of crowds come out as families enjoyed the festivities at the multiplex including a Community Ties pancake breakfast, a homegrown market, a museum barbecue, midway rides, games, face painting and a parade.

“The fall festival is for our community and is a way of saying thank you,” said Penhold mayor Dennis Cooper. “Thank you to our seniors, to our children and our schools, the volunteers and the different organizations that work within our community,” he added. “It's bringing everybody together and celebrating the year.”

There was plenty of fun, food and attractions for families to enjoy noted Cooper.

“There's over 45 different vendors in the homegrown market. People can walk around and see some unique things there,” he said. “Also a bear is being carved today and they're going to donate that bear to auction off, and the money raised from that bear is going to the Penhold Skatepark,” added Cooper.

He noted the parade on Saturday morning was delayed by several minutes while en route, due to an unforeseen incident.

“Unfortunately we had a little incident. Our firefighters were (part of the parade) and were there to assist,” said Cooper. “They once again rose to the occasion and helped the people that needed help. They're truly the heroes in our community.

“That's one of the reasons why our parade marshall this year was our fire chief (Jim Pendergast). That's our way of saying thank you and honouring them for the work they do.”
