The value of building permits issued in Penhold as of the end of June has already exceeded the total value of permits issued in 2011.
Penhold town council received the numbers current to the end of June during the July 10 meeting.
“The numbers are staggering,” said Mayor Dennis Cooper. The total as of June 30 is $10,545,0150. Last year was a record-setting year with a total of $10.2 million worth of permits being issued.
The permit value represents the value of the buildings to be constructed, not money received by the town.
Tricia Willis, the development officer for the Town of Penhold, said in a later interview the high numbers mostly have to do with a steady pace of requests.
“This is just the developers starting earlier in the year,” Willis said. “We didn't have a lull.”
This time last year, the totals were over $4.5 million.
“We've blown last year out of the water,” Willis said.
The totals as of the end of June show almost $1.6 million in permits issued for single family dwellings, over $500,000 in duplex building permits and $117,600 in garage and shed building permits.
There were no commercial, institutional or industrial permits issued in June but Willis said there is a large commercial permit in July's numbers.
“We do have a million dollar commercial expansion,” Willis said.
The record-smashing year totals also don't include a building permit for the new high school yet.
In June 18 building permits were issued in Penhold. The total for 2012 as of June 30 is 83.
