Penhold Town Council met for it's regular public meeting on Tuesday, May 24 at the council chambers in the Penhold Regional Multiplex.
Environmental initiatives continuing
Nancy McAteer, public works foreman for the Town of Penhold, made a presentation to council regarding the town's environmental initiatives for 2011.
This year the town will be offering several new environmental incentives for residents to help reduce their impact on the environment.
The town also wanted to look at more ways to save energy by making homes more energy efficient, as energy is one of the biggest costs for residents, said Dennis Cooper, Penhold Mayor.
For the first time the town will be offering a composting course for residents. The course will outline some of the basic techniques for composting and will be offered on June 23, at the Penhold Multiple. Residents must pre-register for the course.
This year energy efficiency kits and water conservation kits will be available for pick-up from the town office.
The energy efficiency kits contain items that can be used for power conservation and the water conservation kits include a drip gauge, a leak detector table, and an hourglass. There are limited numbers of kits available.
The town will also be continuing its rebate program that provides residents with rebates on the replacement of toilets and showerheads that aid in conservation. Water barrels will once again be raffled off to residents and residents can enter the draw to win one at the town office. More information about any of the environmental initiatives can be found at the town office.
Council hosing coffee hour
Penhold town council will be hosting a coffee hour on Monday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the town office. Council is inviting residents to come with questions or issues that they want to discuss with council members.
The coffee hour is meant to give residents to bring any issues they have to the table, said Cooper.
