Yearly audit statements released

A representative from Heywood Holmes and Partners LLP presented council with the 2010 financial statements and auditors report during the council meeting.

The audit is done to track the money going in and out of the town and also states how much money the town is able to borrow, said Dennis Cooper, Penhold Mayor.

Fitness Centre proposal accepted

After the previous facility manager went default on his lease in March, Penhold town council sent out a request for proposals to find a new manager for the facility.

They have now received one bid for the operation of the fitness centre and during the last council meeting a motion was passed to begin negotiations with the interested party, said Dennis Cooper, Penhold Mayor.

The proposal includes plans for membership packages, fitness classes, child minding, and sports development camps. More details will be available once an agreement is reached.

Memorial Hall fees increase

Penhold Town council voted to increase rental fees for Memorial Hall due to the increasing popularity of the facility.

The hall is currently booked every weekend from May to November and administration recommended to council that the new rates for monthly bookings be increased and limited to one booking per month.

The day rate for monthly bookings has been increased from $300 to $430 and the rate for less than five hours from Friday to Saturday for monthly bookings increased from $300 to $385. Monthly bookings are still subject to a 10 per cent discount for non-profit groups except on New Years Eve.

The New Years Eve rate has increased to $700 for both residents and non-residents.

The new fees will apply to all future bookings made in 2011/2012 but will not apply to those already booked.

Deputy Mayor Appointed

Councillor Danielle Klooster was appointed to the Deputy Mayor position for a six-month term starting on May 1, and continuing until October 31, 2011.

Each councillor will serve six months as deputy mayor during their three-year term on council.
