Heavy truck route open house
An open house to discuss truck parking and routes in Penhold will be held at the multiplex Nov. 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Council voted to schedule the open house during its regular meeting on Nov. 12.
The motion passed identified parking of large trucks on Fleming Avenue and review of the truck routes in town as the discussion items for the open house.
According to the report presented to council, there have been continuing concerns from residents nearby truck traffic. The concerns are about an increase to traffic and the “utilization of streets that do not appear to be truck routes.”
Employee handbook
Council tabled a motion to accept the redrafted Employee Handbook for town workers on Nov. 12.
Coun. Heather Klein made the suggestion of delaying its acceptance so everyone has a chance to read the handbook.
Rick Binnendyk, the chief administrative officer for the town, said a lot of what's been changed are grammatical items. He said another example of what's been changed is switching the term maternity leave to parental leave.
The handbook was drafted by the Councillors' Policy Committee.
Mayor joins AUMA committee
Councillors voted to support Mayor Dennis Cooper as a member of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association Municipal Governance Standing Committee.
Cooper was absent from the meeting but Binnendyk told council the costs would be paid by AUMA.
“It's no cost to the town specific,” he said.
A letter from the AUMA president said this particular committee reviews matters relating to the roles and responsibilities of municipalities, assessment and taxation, inter-municipal relations, cost sharing and revenue sharing between municipalities and the province and more.
