Training report debate
Council voted against requiring staff members to provide a full report about a recent training trip to Kananaskis during the June 25 meeting.
Coun. Chad Hoffman made a motion to request a report about leadership training that the chief administrative officer and other staff members attended. According to Chief Administrative Officer Rick Binnendyk's report, the training cost just over $7,000.
Coun. Danielle Klooster noted that “each of the staff has a training budget” and it was her understanding the cost came out of that.
If staff have to make written reports on each training session they go to, Klooster said “we're going to be killing lots of trees.”
Hoffman voted in favour of a motion requiring a report while the rest of council voted against it.
Joint use agreement accepted
Council voted to agree to a joint-use agreement with Chinook's Edge School Division that involves the new high school that will open in Penhold in 2014.
The agreement sets out the use of the community's access to the school and the school's access to the Penhold Regional Multiplex.
Mayor Dennis Cooper voted against the motion to accept the agreement, voicing concerns about a lack of elected official representation. The rest of council voted to accept the agreement.
Summer council date switch
There will be only one town council meeting held in Penhold in July.
Instead of meeting on the second and fourth Mondays in the month, council will instead meet on July 16, the third Monday.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the town council chambers located at the Penhold Regional Multiplex.
