PENHOLD - RCMP are investigating a suspicious holiday season vehicle fire that occurred at a Penhold intersection.

Penhold firefighters were called to the intersection of Minto Street and Robinson Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22. Firefighters arrived to find an older pickup truck fully involved. Bailey McKay, acting fire lieutenant, of the Penhold Fire Department, said the truck was parked next to a holiday trailer and the quick response of the first arriving firefighters kept the exposure damage to a minimum.

Fire Chief Jim Pendergast said cold weather did cause problems with some of the firefighting equipment. He said the origin and cause of the blaze was suspicious and Innisfail RCMP were investigating.

Pendergast said four units and 15 firefighters were on scene for about two hours. He said there were no injuries to either civilians or firefighters from the incident.
