PENHOLD – The town took time to appreciate women and hosted a Women’s Day Out as part of International Women’s Day  on March 8.

The annual event took place at Memorial Hall in Penhold on April 28.

It was rescheduled from its original date in March.

“We doubled the numbers from our original date so we have about 30 people here today,” said Jamie Seiyama, family resource coordinator with the town. “(Women) are here from Penhold, Innisfail and some are from Bowden.”

There were a number of guest speakers and presentations during the daylong event. As well, women participated in icebreakers and other activities, enjoyed a catered breakfast and lunch, and door prizes.  Every woman who attended also received a swag bag.

“Women received a colouring book, crayons, some snacks, a brochure on stress and just some fun little things,” said Seiyama, noting some of the activities that day.

“We have drumming, laughter yoga, we had a wonderful speech from Melanie Willerth (with the town), about being who you are and embracing your broken parts,” she added, pointing to another presentation by Brenda Grosenick.

“We also have the true colours personality presentation, matching your personality with a colour and having it interact with different colours,” she said.

One other feature activity for the day was a drumming circle with Terra Charmont from Red Deer.

Seiyama noted the great turnout for the Women’s Day Out last year and said they wanted to bring back the event for women to enjoy and share some time together.

“We had a lot of positive feedback last year and this year we were hoping that everyone would return,” said Seiyama. “It’s nice to see everyone out, connecting with each other and with the community. (It’s a day) to just recharge and revitalize.”
