In the midst of a winter storm, nothing can stop the Christmas spirit.

That's the experience of Shanna Doupe, Penhold & District Museum Society secretary, after all the snow had settled on Nov. 29 and the last of the vendors had packed up and gone home from the Market & Cookie Walk.

“We had a great turnout from the 45 vendors who came to display their goods to the Penhold and area citizens who snapped up our cookies,” said Doupe.

She added the market had raised more than $1,700 from cookie sales and registration fees without the 10 per cent Shenanigans Concession & Lounge (located in the multiplex) had committed to be donated to the Penhold museum society.

“There will be some expenses for the day but we are pleased with the support the society received,” said Doupe. “We have held prior events in the Penhold Memorial Hall but through Julie Dalliaire, the town's community services manager, we were able to move the market to the Penhold Regional Multiplex Gymnasium.”

Doupe noted that 45 vendors from Penhold and Central Alberta exhibited and sold handmade Christmas ornaments, books, handmade soaps, clothing and accessories, toys (including a “Build Your Own Lego Minifigure” activity at a Lego and Building Toys booth) and a Harvard Historical Aviation Society display.

“The cookie walk featured over two dozen varieties of cookies for people to customize their own boxes of treats which were popular and cost either $5 or $10 depending on box size,” said Doupe. “We had over 20 dozen chocolate chip cookies alone!”

Doupe added she has been encouraged for the future of the society and museum with an increased awareness of the Penhold museum and greater communication with the community through a new Facebook page (facebook.com/PenholdMuseum).

“Our future in showcasing our past looks bright,” said Doupe.
