PENHOLD - The Penhold skatepark committee is inviting the community to come out and hear an update on progress with the Penhold skatepark project.

The committee is holding a meeting in the Subway Room at the Penhold Regional Multiplex on April 5 at 6:30 p.m.

"We want to let people know what's happening with different grant processes, the kind of money we are looking for and the different companies we've gone to for sponsorship," said Brenda Mahoney, skatepark chair.

The skatepark committee has been working with several groups and individuals and has confirmed support from New Line Skateparks Inc., the Town of Penhold and community members.

"I'm collecting letters of in-kind donations as well as sponsorship," said Mahoney, noting she has several individuals willing to step up to help complete needed work for the new skatepark.

Mahoney also noted she wants to discuss recent news of skateboarding being introduced as a sport at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Toyko.

"I think we really need to focus on that. It's an excellent opportunity," she said. "I'd like to know if Penhold youth are interested in taking the sport that far."

Mahoney encourages all community members and families to come out to the Penhold skatepark meeting.

"I'm hoping that we can get a lot more youth involved," said Mahoney. "We really do need more community involvement."
