The Phil-Can Neighbourhood Association of Innisfail is inviting local and area residents to a western-style hoedown.

The fundraising western spring party is being held at the Innisfail Royal Canadian Legion on April 9.

“It's our annual fundraising event for the association,” said Grace Gresos, chair of the association. “Our goal is to help the community.”

Every year the association chooses one or more local groups or organizations to help and then launches a fundraiser. This year the beneficiaries are the Innisfail Senior Drop-In Centre and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Innisfail.

This is the fourth year for the fundraising event, Gresos noted, adding the association hopes to raise about $3,000 this year.

“If we can raise $1,500 for each (organization) that's good,” she said. “We don't know if we will make it. If we are lucky, we will raise $1,000 (for each group). That is the goal we are expecting because it's hard financial times now for many and lots of people don't have jobs.”

The evening will include a dinner and dance as well as games, prizes and a silent auction. All proceeds raised will go towards the Innisfail Senior Drop-In Centre and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Innisfail.

There will also be western and country music, western-style decorations and guests are invited to wear cowboy hats and boots for the event.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m.
