PHOTO: Lacombe man arrested for assault near Innisfail

Innisfail RCMP responded to a distraught female following an assault on July 12. The woman was camping at the junction of the Red Deer and Medicine rivers on July 12 and told Innisfail RCMP she had been assaulted by her male companion.

Bernard Michael Sontheim, 28, of Innisfail, has been charged with 25 Criminal Code offences following a vehicle ramming incident in Olds on Aug. 10.

Innisfail RCMP responded to a distraught female following an assault on July 12.

The woman was camping at the junction of the Red Deer and Medicine rivers on July 12 and told Innisfail RCMP she had been assaulted by her male companion. The victim was stuck on the south side of the river and could not leave the situation, she told police.

Due to the high river flow and the secluded area, Innisfail RCMP received assistance from Red Deer County Search and Rescue, Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue, Innisfail and Red Deer County fire departments, the Civilian Aviation Search and Rescue, Red Deer County Community Peace Officers, Raven Crime Watch, and Rocky Mountain House RCMP.

With assistance from multiple agencies and the public, the victim was located and RCMP were able to arrest the male.

Fritz Solberg, 38, of Lacombe was arrested without incident and was charged with the following:

· Assault causing bodily harm;

· Choking to overcome resistance;

· Intimidation;

· Uttering threats; and

· Theft under $5,000

Solberg was remanded to attend provincial court in on July 16.

As the matter is now before the courts, RCMP are not releasing any further information.
