Plea delayed in forcible confinement case

An Innisfail man facing charges of break and enter with intent, forcible confinement, choking to overcome resistance, assault, assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and other offences put over his election and plea when he appeared in court in Airdrie on Aug. 23.

The man, who isn't being named to due to a publication ban protecting the identity of the victim, was charged after his alleged victim passed a note to a Good Samaritan at CrossIron Mills on March 28. An RCMP press release said mall security was contacted. The security guard called the police and located the victim and suspect, taking them to the security office.

The press release said the accused allegedly assaulted the woman in front of the police and fought the officers during arrest.

The man is due back in court on Sept. 13 for election and plea. Election is when an accused individual chooses whether he wants to be tried in provincial court by a judge, or in the Court of Queen's Bench with a judge and jury or with a judge alone.
