Six impaired over holidays
Checkstops were conducted over the holiday season with police setting up just off the overpass from Highway 2, downtown on the main street and outside town on C&E Trail.
In total there were six impaired charges and three 24-hour suspensions.
Eleven collisions, involving either one or two vehicles were reported over the Christmas week said police.
“I think the weather helped a lot with people driving over the holidays,” said Cpl. A.J. Mand, who said the number of collisions weren’t over the ordinary during the holidays.
On Dec. 20 a man was charged with careless driving after hitting a power pole in the early morning hours on Twp. Rd. 253.
He drove off the road just after 5 a.m. and hit a power pole. He suffered no injuries.
B&E on gas site
A gasoline site was broken into sometime last week between 9 p.m. Dec. 19 and 6 a.m. the following morning.
Located on Rge. Rd. 264 north of Highway 590, the locks outside the gate were cut. The door and a window were broken to gain entrance into the building. Nothing was taken besides a computer monitor.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP.
Vandals hit construction site
Power tools worth $7,000 were jacked from a construction site in Penhold. Sometime between 5:30 on the evening of Dec. 22 and 8:30 the next morning the tools were stolen from Hawkridge Subdivision, where they had been left out at a construction site. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP.
Goals for new year
Police will meet with council in the new year to discuss strategies for the year forward. Currently the focus in Innisfail is on traffic enforcement, youth and drugs.
“We’ll talk with the town and see if they want a new direction,” said Mand. “We’ll see what’s out there and what we can get involved with.”
The police are working on starting a D.A.R.E. program in Penhold, something that’s only been offered so far in Innisfail. The program, Drug Awareness Resistance Education, has police work directly with Grade 5 students. The focus is on teaching students about drugs and offers alternatives to drugs.
