Innisfail man ejected from truck, suffers serious injuries
Four people from Innisfail were involved in a single vehicle collision early Saturday morning.
The driver of a Gray 2010 GMC Sierra pickup, a 30-year-old male from Acadia Valley, was about to enter QE II northbound lanes from the Highway 590 on-ramp access. The pickup failed to take the curve and went off the road where it lost control.
It rolled several times across the northbound lanes of the QE II, coming to rest on its wheels in the grass median.
A 23-year-old male from Innisfail was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the truck. He was transported by STARS air ambulance to hospital in Calgary for treatment of serious injuries.
Two women, 34 and 19 were wearing their seatbelts and taken to hospital with minor injuries, as was a 27-year-old man from Innisfail. The driver was also wearing his seatbelt.
The accident occurred around 12:20 a.m. and the highway was closed for approximately five hours while the RCMP conducted the investigation.
Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit were dispatched and the town of Innisfail Fire and Emergency Services also attended.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. The collision is still under investigation. No charges have been laid.
Semi crashes through guardrails
A man remains in hospital after losing control on Highway 2 Thursday evening, crashing through guardrails and down into traffic below.
At approximately 7:15, the man driving a semi tractor-trailer unit lost control approaching the Highway 2A/Taylor Drive flyover in Red Deer. The vehicle crashed through the highway guardrail and continued down the grassy embankment into traffic on Taylor Drive.
The semi cleared the centre median and finally ended up crashing into concrete barriers on the west side of Taylor Drive.
The driver managed not to collide with any other vehicles.
Highway 2A north of Gasoline Alley and south of 19 Street was closed for several hours for the investigation and cleanup. The semi-tractor involved sustained extensive front-end damage as a result of the collision. The trailer was not loaded.
Police do not suspect speed or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
Members from Innisfail Highway 2 Integrated Traffic Services with assistance from RCMP Red Deer City Detachment attended the scene. Red Deer Fire and Emergency services treated the 49-year-old male driver from Lac La Biche for his injuries and transported him to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre where he remains in stable condition suffering from broken ribs, cuts and scrapes resulting from the impact.
No charges have been laid at this time as the matter is still under investigation.
