Break and enter
A business at the Co-op mall was broken into between May 8 and 9.
According to a press release from Innisfail RCMP officer Const. J.E. Thomas, Le Café Grind was accessed through the main entrance and various items stolen.
Cpl. Jeff Hildebrandt said in a later interview that the front door was forced open and cash and electronics were taken.
He said there are some suspects identified but the incident is still being investigated.
Individuals who spotted any suspicious vehicles or people in the area between May 8 and 9 are asked to contact the Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS to leave an anonymous tip. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via the website www.tipsubmit.com.
Charge laid for too high load
A semi “winch” tractor was hauling an empty oilfield container on its deck that was too high to go under the Highway 11 overpass on QEII.
A press release from Const. Doug Dewar of the Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit said that members of the unit were dispatched to the scene at around 7:25 p.m. on May 10.
The collision was in the southbound lanes of the highway. The load was higher than the 5.2-metre clearance of the overpass so the container struck the bottom of the overpass and was dislodged from the deck.
Alberta Highways confirmed there was no structural damage to the overpass. Alberta Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers attended the scene and laid a charge against the driver for hauling a load that was higher than permitted.
The collision affected traffic for approximately one hour, restricting southbound traffic to one lane, while the incident was investigated, the overpass inspected and the storage tank removed from the scene.
Impaired driver used kid's wheels
Hildebrandt said on May 5 RCMP members were in the parking lot behind the Zoo bar when they spotted an adult male driving a child's ATV unit down 51 Avenue with a beer in his hand.
The driver was not wearing a helmet. The small ATV featured a Hello Kitty sticker as part of its décor.
Police followed the driver, who did not respond to emergency signals and lights. He was arrested in his driveway for impaired driving.
Hildebrandt said the accused was a suspended driver.
Car mischief kickup
Hildebrandt said Innisfail RCMP have been noticing a slight increase in attempted and completed entrances to vehicles as the weather gets nicer.
He reminded the public to be aware and secure their vehicles. He said valuables should be removed from the vehicles.
May-long reminders
Hildebrandt said the Innisfail RCMP are maximizing the number of officers available for service calls during the upcoming May long weekend.
“This is traditionally our busiest weekend,” Hildebrandt said. Patrols will include a couple with ATVs.
The corporal reminded the public to be aware of their valuables.
“Protect your belongings as best you can,” he said.
The long weekend often brings an increase in calls for drunk and disorderly complaints, collisions and thefts, he said.
